But it isn't the complete story. Not only the hardware but the software matters too. Previously Apple was using Intel-based processors which were based on x86 Architecture, but Apple had the benefit as they make their own software. They made Mac OS from scratch to make it Arm compatible. Another challenge for them was application support. It took them around 2yrs to optimize the existing software with the new architecture. Now, most of the apps are compatible but Apple still developed a platform called Rosetta to run the apps based on x86 architecture.
Windows is still lagging with this, but it seems like Qualcomm can fix this problem. It's not like Qualcomm hasn't tried this before they had made a processor named Qualcomm SD 8cx 5G compute platform. Some products were launched too in the market with windows support, but they were unsuccessful. But now it seems that they can prove what they are saying. Recently Qualcomm has acquired NUVIA which has an advanced technology to build an advanced processor. They can make a High-end powerful ARM-based processor. According to Qualcomm's CEO, it can beat Apple's, M2 Chip. Around 2023 or 2024 it will be out for mass production and products with the new chip can be seen in the Global Market.
But there's a catch around 2023 and 2024 we might be seeing Apple's more powerful M3 or M4 chip, which might make Qualcomm's chip look outdated. But this time Qualcomm is looking quite promising as making such a big statement isn't a joke without any valid progress.
See it isn't only with the hardware it's with the software, Qualcomm has always lagged because of less optimization in the Windows platform. See windows is made for x86-based processors like that of Intel's and AMD's there's an ARM version of windows too but it's also not well optimized. But yeah, it might be possible that Microsoft will work on it and make it optimized So that we can see it with the new NUVIA chips. Developers too have to backport x86-based apps to make them ARM supported.
In the past, many have tried and failed but Apple has revolutionized the market by leaving a mark in the form of its Silicon chips. It will be great to see if Qualcomm can change the market.
Is there any Area where Qualcomm is competing Head-to-Head with Apple?
Yes, past rumors suggested that Apple could have showcased its new AR and VR tech, which did not happen, but Qualcomm does have a strong comeback for this as they have already made a great way with AR and VR tech.
There's still no approximate launch time provided by the company. But we might be seeing it in 2024 or 2025.
