What Is Safety Net
SafetyNet is a simple and a security measure from Google to verify device compatibility and security. For app developers, it improves the application’s security. SafetyNet essentially prevents tampering with data within an application and helps preserve device security and user trust. SafetyNet is integrated within Google Play Services and is independent of the device manufacturer. Therefore, it requires Google Play Services to be enabled on the device for this API to function properly. However, when you are using a custom ROM or have a rooted device, This API breaks and Banking apps stop working.
As Android is an open-source project by Google chances are high that hackers can easily target the android apps and their data. At first, banking software like google pay etc used this functionality to prevent tampering with data, but right now, streaming apps also have adopted this measure and are working on it. It means that you won’t be able to enjoy services from Netflix and Amazon Prime until you bypass Google’s SafetyNet wall.
