Respawn Entertainment, the developer behind the popular battle royale game Apex Legends, has announced that the mobile version of the game will be shutting down on May 1, 2023. The company stated that this decision was due to factors beyond their control, and that the mobile port will be discontinued a year after its initial release. Apex Legends, which is also available on PC and console, was developed by Respawn Entertainment and is currently owned by Electronic Arts (EA).
EA has announced that it has ceased in-game purchases using real currency and that the game will be removed from online stores as of February 1st, 2023. The company also announced that it is cancelling the highly anticipated mobile port of its popular Battlefield franchise. The cancellation of Apex Legends Mobile comes just weeks after it won the Game of the Year 2022 award on Apple and Google app stores.
The company stated that the game had a strong start but various factors, such as its content roadmap and a lower bar for quality and quantity, led to its shutdown. The developers have decided to discontinue the mobile version of the game in May 2023, but this decision does not affect the PC or console versions of the game.
