The iconic Internet Explorer web browser is being phased out by Microsoft, with the platform's last day on the internet set for June 15. Internet Explorer was first released 27 years ago, in 1995, as part of the Windows 95 operating system for PCs. Initially, users had to pay to download the browser, but after a period, it was made available for free.
After 25 years of service, Microsoft is retiring Internet Explorer. The search browser for Windows 95 was released in 1995 as an add-on.
The following versions were either free or included as in-service packs. The Internet Explorer, also known as the "OG" search browser, saw a big jump in popularity in 2003 before falling out of favour as new browsers came out.
However, no major upgrades or new versions of Internet Explorer have been released by Microsoft since 2016. Microsoft's last and final version of Internet Explorer, version 11, was released in 2013.
According to Microsoft, widespread support for the ageing search engine will be discontinued on June 15, 2022, rendering it useless.
Several tweets in regard of demise of Internet Explorer have been surfaced online but to be honest those are quite funny and nostalgic.
