The most important change is represented by the use of pill-shaped buttons for the key elements of the screen, which thus acquires a more modern look.
And so, instead of using two separate thumb up and thumb down buttons, the new interface implements a single button that contains both options. A similar approach is also adopted for the buttons for sharing, creating content, downloading and other normal actions, with the use of pill-shaped buttons.
This new design could also coincide with the "Ambient Mode", which allows the bottom of a video to occupy the description section, in order to offer users a more engaging experience (this mode can be manually enabled or disabled through the overflow menu).
Another important change is that by virtue of which the main comments are placed within a more prominent container, with the hope that users will be encouraged to comment more on the various contents they find on the platform. According to reports, this new interface has appeared for the first users over the last few days but has not yet been widely implemented.
In any case, a couple of years after the last major restyling of YouTube, it seems the time has come for a new look.
