In the past few hours, some interesting advances have emerged on this new sensor from the Japanese manufacturer, which should be implemented in high-end smartphones, including the likely next flagship models of OnePlus (which has chosen its predecessor for OnePlus 9 Pro) and OPPO ( which used its predecessor on OPPO Find X5 Pro).
What do we know at the moment about the 50 megapixel Sony IMX866 sensor:
According to what is learned, Sony IMX866 should be larger than its predecessor (ie Sony IMX766) and be able to count on larger pixels, able to collect more light.
Another important difference should be the arrangement of the Red-Green-Blue-White pixel matrix (instead of the traditional red, green and blue pixels used in the Sony IMX766): the addition of the white pixel should allow for better light collection. and better color accuracy.
Finally, Sony IMX866 should be a dual-frame sensor, capable of reaching an aspect ratio of 16:11 (using 1 / 1.49 ″ from the sensor size) during video recording while for photos an aspect ratio of 4: 3 (overall size not disclosed).
