An iPhone 12 Mini that has undergone modifications and now features both USB-C and Lightning ports has been sighted. Initially, the iPhone 12 series came equipped solely with a Lightning port, and there had been rumors about Apple's potential switch to a USB-C port. The introduction of the USB-C interface on the iPhone 12 Mini is the first modification of its kind. A YouTuber named Hyphaistos3672 is responsible for the modification, which allowed for the addition of the USB-C port.
The iPhone 12 Mini was disassembled and the speaker was removed to create space for an additional USB-C port. The port was then connected to the existing hardware, and the speaker was modified to fit into the new layout. After reassembling the device, both the internal and external finishing were of high quality.
The modded iPhone 12 Mini demonstrated that both the Lightning and USB-C ports were fully functional, allowing users to charge the device while listening to audio through a wired connection. This is significant because it hasn't been possible to do so since Apple removed the audio jack from iPhones.
It should be noted, however, that adding a USB port to an iPhone is not a new modification. There have been rumors that Apple is considering replacing the Lightning port with USB-C connectivity due to regulatory pressure, but as of now, it has not made the switch.
