Let's go back to talking about bugs that occur in Big G services, after the recent problems with Android Auto, today's one concerns some Pixel smartphones that are experiencing anomalies in the use of Google Assistant.
Google Assistant opens the keyboard instead of voice input on some Pixels
According to several reports that appeared on Reddit (here, here and here), it seems that a number of Pixel users are experiencing an annoying problem in using Google Assistant. When the Google Assistant is started, whether it is called up via a button, voice command or microphone icon in the search bar, the latter always opens the keyboard instead of starting the search via voice input, although the preference is correctly set in the dedicated settings on "voice".

The bug in question actually forces users who find it to perform an extra step, clicking on the microphone icon to access the voice search; mind you, it is nothing transcendental, but it is still annoying for those who usually use the Google Assistant a lot without the need to physically interact with the smartphone.
Users who encounter the bug in question also see a purple key containing the letters TNG in the lower left corner of the assistant panel.
According to some, this would be a reference to Star Trek: The Next Generation and the way in which Google sometimes refers to future updates of existing products; therefore it is not clear if the whole issue is really a bug or a test by Big G for a future change to be made to its assistant, the fact that not all users encounter it could in fact also indicate that it is a function released during testing. We just have to wait to find out more.
