The tech world is abuzz with the latest leaks surrounding the Google Tensor G3, which is reportedly codenamed "Zuma" and will be known as "GS 301." The Tensor G3 is set to power the upcoming Google Pixel 8 series, including the highly anticipated Pixel 8 Ultra. What's exciting about the Tensor G3 is that it will be the first system-on-a-chip (SoC) to be built on 3nm Samsung GAA architecture, marking the first product of real collaboration between Samsung and Google.
The CPU of the Google Tensor G3 features a 4+4+1 configuration, including one Cortex X3 core, four Cortex A720 or A715 cores, and four A510 cores. This marks a 21% improvement compared to the previous generation's 1+3+4 configuration. Additionally, the Tensor G3 will use the Mali G715 GPU, also known as "Mali Turse MP8," rather than the Immortalis-715 GPU, which has high power consumption.
The Tensor G3 will be the first SoC to be built on Samsung's 3nm GAA architecture, which marks a significant collaboration between Samsung and Google. The Exynos team has also assisted with the development of Tensor 3 since 2022, which explains why the Exynos 2300 has been delayed until Q3 or potentially cancelled.
Google has already received early samples of the G3 as of August 10th, 2022, and will receive more samples in November 2022 and February 2023. The final version of the Tensor G3 will be released in April 2023, and the first batch of Samsung's 3nm chip will be delivered by July 2023.
With the Tensor 3 ML (AI) performance being significantly stronger, with a 400-600% boost over Tensor 2, it should not be underestimated this time if it is built on 3nm process instead of Samsung's 4nm LPP, which is a possibility.
